Title: Bill Marshall Fellowships

SYNOPSIS: Each year since Bill Marshall's death, the Trustees of
the Memorial Fund have awarded one or two Visiting fellows scheme for
periods of three months. They are intended for intended for junior
doctors in training for whom a period of research would be an
appropriate next step in their career who wish to visit Great Ormond
Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust and the Institute of Child
Health to gain further experience at one of the specialist
departments. Priority is given to applicants from South East Asia who
have not previously had the opportunity of studying in the UK at
postgraduate level. High quality candidates from other countries can
be considered.

OBJECTIVES: The Fellow may attend all the clinical and academic
functions of the Unit to which they are attached, with Observer status
only. It should be noted that clinical responsibilities cannot be
given. It may also be possible for Fellows to attend a limited number
of short specialist courses at the Institute of Child Health during
their stay, subject to the approval of the Director of the Visiting
Fellows programme.
ELIGIBILITY
The sponosr welcomes applications from junior doctors. All candidates
must be nominated by a senior colleague.
FUNDING
The awards are each in the region of £5,000 which provides enough
funding for subsistence, single person accommodation, return air
travel to the UK , and travel within the UK for meetings/visits and
registration fees for such meetings. (It should be noted in this
respect that the single person accommodation provided is usually in a
hall of residence, though no particular accommodation can be
guaranteed. Fellows who wish to bring their families would have to be
responsible for finding and funding their own accommodation, bearing
in mind that accommodation in central London is very expensive).
