Bamboo Solutions has a rollup web part that will work for this. It will also work for tasks too.

So, I'm seeing a lot of third party web parts and custom solutions being recommded here.  What about this requirement wouldn't be handled by OOB calendar overlays?

I agree with Mark. Using the OOB overlays works pretty slick.

I have a department that needed to have different events be different colors. I showed them the overlay feature. Creating all the calendars that would be different topics or colors, then create a “master calendar” then clicking by on the “Calendars in view” in the quick launch and adding the other calendars. Works pretty good. Although we are having an issue with events disappearing now, but that is a topic for another time.

The idea of trying to make sense of twelve lists makes me a bit nauseous, but it's good to know of the limitation.

Rolling up more than 12 calendars is the one that comes to mind for me.

So, I'm seeing a lot of third party web parts and custom solutions being recommded here. What about this requirement wouldn't be handled by OOB calendar overlays?

Bamboo Solutions has a rollup web part that will work for this. It will also work for tasks too.

In SP2010, what tool would one use to produce a clickable graphic as a home page? Say a collection of Visio shapes, some clickable to another page, some upon hover produce a drop-down of multiple links to choose.

Have never done anything like this, my SP experiences have been data centric with OOB navigation.
