2) VCRS Doctoral Studentships, offering fees and maintenance for all students.

The project "Mapping Amazonian biodiversity at multiple scales by integrating geology and ecology" seeks a PhD student for a fixed term employment until the end of 2017 at the University of Turku. The project is funded by the Academy of Finland in the context of a joint biodiversity program with FAPESP of the São Paulo State in Brazil, and is carried out as a collaborative project between University of Turku and the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research.

The overall aim of the project is to increase understanding of the broad-scale biodiversity patterns in Amazonian rain forests by combining information on floristic and edaphic heterogeneity as inferred from indicator species, soil data and remote sensing, and reconstructions of the geological history and landscape evolution in Amazonia. The PhD student is expected to actively pursue research related to these topics.

The successful applicant should have a MSc degree in a relevant field of science and should show high motivation, enthusiasm for science and ability to work both independently and as a member of an international research team. Earlier experience with similar research topics is an asset. Depending on the interests of the successful candidate, the position may include field work in Brazilian Amazonia.

The salary of the PhD student will be based on job demands level 2 of the university salary chart for teachers and researchers. The task-specific basic salary component is 1944.69 euros per month and the additional component determined by personal performance is at most 46.3 % of the basic salary.

The position has a probation period of four months.

Responsibilities/Objectives
Under the direction of Finance Manager, the Finance Assistant will undertake the following tasks:
- Assist in the day-to-day financial process for  Jakarta office , applying consistency in accounting practices and procedures in accordance with GAAP

Qualifications

Background

Yayasan Rumah Energi (YRE) has entered into an agreement with Hivos to assist in the implementation of the Indonesia Domestic Biogas Programme, also known as BIRU Programme.  The BIRU Programme aims at the development of the Indonesia domestic biogas sector and build bio digesters at least in 9 province in Indonesia. IDBP or BIRU Programme until 2013 has produce 11,000 bio digesters, providing access to biogas for 17,725 people.
 
The overall objective of the Indonesia Domestic Biogas Programme is to disseminate domestic bio-digesters as a local and sustainable energy source through the development of a commercial, market oriented sector in selected provinces.
 
For this project, Yayasan Rumah Energi is looking for a dynamic Indonesians national to fill the following positions:
 
 
PROVINCIAL COORDINATOR LAMPUNG (PC LAMPUNG)
 
Responsibilities & tasks
 
The Provincial Coordinator manages day to day operation of the office as well as the progress of work in the field. Major responsibilities include ensuring the provincial target is achieved, maintaining construction progress, stakeholder coordination and liaison, administration, and handling local credit providers. The scope of the activities of the Provincial Coordinator includes:
  1. Manage the Provincial Office for the Programme
  2. Prepare Detailed Implementation Plans and Budgets
  3. Prepare 6-monthly and annual work plans and budgets and reports for submission to the donor and government
  4. Prepare monthly plans and budgets, progress and financial reports for submission to Head office
  5. Liaise with provincial stakeholders (government, private sector, cooperatives, farmer groups, users and NGOs) which play a – potential - role in the implementation of the biogas programme,
  6. Identify, recommend and contract suitable programme partners (for promotion, construction, appliances vendors and extension)
  7. Identify, recommend and execute marketing efforts of the biogas digesters
  8. Select suitable programme areas within the province in coordination with the NBPSO
  9. Monitor promotional activities and programme progress through field visits and data collection
  10. Act as programme focal point at provincial level
  11. Supervise the provincial programme staff and assist in or lead recruitment
  12. Supervise the day to day operation at the provincial level
  13. Ensure proper financial and administrative activities adhering to the Standard Operation Guidelines and other instructions from the NBPSO
  14. Coordinate regularly with the National Biogas Programme Office in Jakarta
  15. Contribute to programme development strategies, especially for the provincial level
  16. Ensure proper biogas digester data collection procedures and practices and maintain an MIS in accordance with programme requirements or instructions from the NBPSO
  17. Provide logistical and liaison support to field visits for IDBP (BIRU)
  18. Undertake research activities when deemed required and play a role in knowledge dissemination for both IDBP and the Iconic Island programme.
  19. Alert the NBPSO about emerging issues that can influence the implementation of the Programme
  20. Assist to a reasonable extend the IDBP Programme Manager and YRE in additional tasks as requested.
 
Requirements
§  A minimum of Bachelor (S-1) degree.
§  Extensive experience working with provincial and district governments.
§  Demonstrated leadership and management skills with supervisory responsibilities
§  Able to develop networks and maintain good relationships with government agencies/institutions at all levels, non-government organization, and civil society organizations.
§  Extensive experience in working with provincial or district government officials and civil society leaders.
§  Able to work under tight deadlines.
§  High degree of adaptability to varied working environments and good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
§  Good command of English and Indonesian communication skills.
§  Good computer skills, including internet and e-mail.
