Joe, i recommend creating 2 Custom lists, MOdels and ModelAssignments. In the Models list add the Model number and any other specific information, that is specific to that Model such as manufacturer and serial numer. In the ModelAssignment list, add a Lookup field that is connected to the Model list, rename the default Title field to AssignedTo and an additional Assignment Date column (Date data type).

you will then be able to easily to what you describe. One of the big improvements in 2010 it the ability to enforce referential integrity so that lookup data cannot be accidentally deleted.

If your people are in Active Directory, you may want to make the Assigned To column a People column so that it is easier to choose a person. In this case, you won't be able to use the default Title column in the ModelAssignment list. to work around this problem, create a new custom Content Type that is based on a List item. In this CT, set the Title to Hidden, then add the Model column (as Lookup) and the AssignedTo column (as a Person/Group). Go back to the ModelAssignment list, under Advanced Settings, activate Content Types, add the new CT, remove the original Item CT and then when you create a new item, you won't see the unused Title field on the new item form.

In the Model Assignment list, create a new view that Groups By Model

Dean, I played around with this and I can see it working. I can integrat this process into our SP2007 db data and move it forward. I need to think this through to make the current DB use this setup as there is a lot of other data in there, but this is a great start.

Allow Partially Trusted Callers Attribute

Posted by: "Venkatesh H" venkat82.h@gmail.com   venkat_82_20012001

Hi All,

I am working on Sandbox web parts. As part of this, I am using some Custom
DLLs (3rd party and custom developed by me). I want to use these dlls in my
Sandbox web parts. For my custom dlls, I did add
AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers attribute in AssemblyInfo.cs, but even then, I
am getting an error, while using them in my Sandbox web parts. I did read
some blog, which says to wrap the functionality inside custom dll which
will have this attribute. But I am not sure, how can I do this for Custom
DLLs which expose UI ( I mean Control DLLs). But in any case, the adding of
this attribute, doesn't help in anyway. It keeps giving me error. I have
searched a lot with no success. Any earliest help would be greatly
appreciated.

Regards,
Ven

Versioning Question

Thu Mar 1, 2012 11:03 am (PST)

I really like the versioning for when I change data at this point. I see that if I change the default TITLE field to a name like VErsion History and have a default of CLICK HERE, the user can select that to see the versions.

If I port a db from 2007 to 2010 via Access, I can not see the versioning work as no field is setup from a beginning point.

So the question is, how can I see the versioning in a ported dbon a designated record?

Joe

Can turning on a site feature break inheritance?

Posted by: "Heather" morthy672002@yahoo.com   morthy672002

I have full control of a subsite and somehow while I was working on it the other day, my whole URL changed. I can sort of live with that, but the top link tab, which made my site accessible to the root site and other sub-sites is now broken. The global navigation changed! The last thing I remember doing before it broke was I activated the Group Work Lists site feature.Has anyone had experienc with this site collection feature?

Thanks!

Really don't know what you are trying to accomplish.
If a web part is on a page and the page loads, the web part gets a hit. If the page loads 10 times, the web part gets 10 hits.
If the page loads 100 times the web part gets 100 hits.

Sharepoint Workflow History Cleanup

Hi,

Moss 2007

I believe by default Sharepoint cleans up the workflow history after 60
days. Has anyone changed this value? is it really a bad idea to change it?
We are being requested to keep it for 3 years.

Thanks in advance,
Shay

In my case I have multiple sharepoint sites that needs to be linked using single sign on so that a user logged into one sharepoint site can automatically access other sites based on the policies defined for that user. Any suggestions anyone on how to go about this?
