It sounds like you are describing something known as "Account Creation
Mode". Unfortunately, that's a feature that can only be turned on during
the initial installation of SharePoint and its only available in WSS (2007)
and Foundation (2010). It can't be used in SharePoint Server 2010.

Subject: [sharepointdiscussions] Create AD users through Sharepoint Admin

In our hosted sharepoint site, when I create a new user, it says "Creating
new Active Directory user". I assume it is really doing that.

How can I set up my Sharepoint Server so that I can create users directly in
the site instead of having to create them first in AD before they can be
added? Am I right to understand that this is a difference between kerberos
and NTLM? I know NTLM uses only the AD users that already exist.

Mr. Stork, thank you! That is the answer. Now I can forget about that particular mode and look at other things in good faith.

Looking for PowerShell Scripts to provision new 2010 farm

Posted by: "gt3user2006" russellk@darden.virginia.edu   gt3user2006

I would like to provision a new SharePoint 2010 farm with Powershell scripts. Is there a documented PowerShell library I can download and tweak for my own use?

Thanks.

Kevin

Codeplex PS tool (directions on the site)

http://autospinstaller.codeplex.com/

Index of SharePoint Server 2010 Windows PowerShell cmdlets

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff678226.aspx

If you plan to run the PS remote

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/opal/archive/2010/03/07/sharepoint-2010-with-windows
-powershell-remoting-step-by-step.aspx

Neat little Silverlight PS script builder

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/TechNet/en-us/Office/media/WindowsPowerSh
ell/WindowsPowerShellCommandBuilder.html

And last but not least of all a really good editor (as a developer this
editor makes me feel at home versus the command console)

http://www.google.com/search?q=power+gui+script+editor

I left the Google search for this as it does a nice job of laying out the
sites areas of focus since the site itself is kind of cluttered but here is
the direct link if you want it:

http://powergui.org

Hope this helps you it only to 5 minutes out of my day to pass on the
knowledge, and I hope that this is the real items you were hoping to find
from the SharePoint community here.

Thanks,

Shane Gibson

That AutoSPInstaller - it has twenty-five ratings, and every one of them are five-stars. I decided to try it too.

I explored over there at codeplex, and found two guides to that script:

http://blog.lekman.com/2010/11/automated-sharepoint-2010-installations.html

http://www.wahidsaleemi.com/2011/11/autospinstaller-getting-prepared/

In fact, I completely removed my test portal, and am going to try again with this script, myself.
