For one thing I think you need SQL 2008 SP1 as the minimum when running on
Windows Server 2008 r2. That would apply to SSRS also. For Windows 2008 R2
you really should be installing SQL 2008 R2.

Re: SharePoint/.NET Single sign on

Hi Ani,
Thanks for posting this. I am also looking for a similar solution but slightly different. In my case I have multiple sharepoint sites that needs to be linked using single sign on so that a user logged into one sharepoint site can automatically access other sites based on the policies defined for that user. Any suggestions anyone on how to go about this?

I have been told to enable SSO type solution where any user can log in to either .NET or SharePoint and browse between these two apps without being prompted user name and password again and again.

You may want to check the user credentials that that application pool is running under.

If that password is expired, account was suspended or any such thing you could get this behaviour.

Checked! It's set to not locked!
Window update was turned off too, no update was applied.

Turns out a backup was running and MS automatic updates kicked off and eventually rebooted the server. The first thing the backup does is set the sitelock to readonly, which evidently locks out people without the proper permissions.
