looking for 2010 Training Solutions

Hi, we're trying to work up a budget to have someone come to Charlotte NC and train myself and about 6 others using Sharepoint 2010. Mainly stuff like rights admin, and new features. All of this audience are Webmasters with fairly extensive experience with SPS2003, MOSS2007. We would need training for use with our public facing publishing internet as well as our intranet.

Did you contact a local training provider?
They may be able to offer a customizable course for you.

Hi Eric,

Are you just looking for general pricing information? At Improving, we
charge about $1200/person for a public three-day class at our facility (
http://improvingenterprises.com/events/event/ms-50353-sharepoint-2010-overview-for-it-professionals-2012-02-14/).
I can put you in touch with the right people to be sure; we also
offer
custom dedicated classes.

Whether you decide to buy training from us or not, we'd be happy to put
some numbers together for you. Contact me offlist if you're interested.

Cheers,

Peter

I have been dissatisfied with some of the providers I have found locally in the past. Not naming names. :))

Not getting off topic but it is true.

My training provider rotates their instructors from classroom to the field.

With that being said I have had custom provided training from people who like to put those numbers at the end of their certification, that was bad so bad I recommended not paying them and wanting them to run it again with a different instructor.

SP2010 - Password Reset - Claims Authentication?

Posted by: "themags1976" jbyrd76@hotmail.com   themags1976

Tue Jan 17, 2012 12:05 pm (PST)

Hello, I am hoping to get some opinions...

I am setting up a SharePoint 2010 extranet environment in a DMZ that is going to be using claims authentication (STS/SAML) to allow customers to access the site. Customers who have their own ADFS (or whatever mechanism they use) will be setup in Windows AZURE's ACS as the identity provider and SharePoint 2010 in my DMZ will be the relying party. These customers can manage their own users in their AD environment and I don't have to worry about their password resets.

For customers that don't have their own ADFS or do not wish to stand one up, I was going to add those users to my Active Directory in my DMZ. In my DMZ, I will have the SharePoint 2010 environment, AD, and ADFS. I will connect my ADFS to Windows AZURE's ACS so that all customers are accessing SharePoint 2010 using the same authentication process.

Using the above scenario,I have started to look at how to manage the user's passwords that are in my DMZ domain. Is it possible to have a SharePoint 2010 webpart that will manage password resets when claims auth (STS/SAML) is used? If not, is my best approach to have a separate asp.net site outside of SharePoint just for password management for my DMZ?

All opinions are welcome!
Thank you!
Jennifer

There are quite a few vendors with password reset features.

In the long run, I think you are going to have a lot of work managing individual user accounts in your DMZ. Maintaining individual sites. Configuring/managing web apps.

There are already well known vendors out there offering this service (with many of them already having multiple SharePoint MVP's on staff), so competition is going to be extremely tough, especially being the new kid on the block.

Hopefully you have an SLA that is advantageous to you and your team.

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I agree that there will be maintenance involved but it really isn't an option, in my case, to hire a vendor to do that.

Have you created a content source and actually crawled it?

As I remember you need to enable Profile pages for the BCS External Content
type in order to use it in Search. I think it can be crawled without
profile pages, but it's the BCS Profile pages that are the target URLs you
are pointed at when you search.

it needs a BCS connector.

A google search will return the technet article that will tell him how to do it.

Exporting List Data to MS Word Avery Templates

Posted by: "Dwayne" dwacon@yahoo.com   dwacon

Tue Jan 17, 2012 1:11 pm (PST)

Built a mailing list for a friend in boxed view to cut and paste onto packages.

She decided she wants to use Avery Labels (which has templates for Microsoft Word).

Any tips for easily exporting the data from SP to these labels?

Thanks.
