When you make a change to a content type, that change gets pushed down to all instances of that content type and any content types that inherit from it.

So, in effect, I will have a fillable (infopath) form attached to a sharepoint list that I can edit from one location and it will be updated whereever it has been deployed?

Does that mean that even after my form has been completed, and I add another question to the content type, that the question will be added in the right place to the original, and appear blank in the lists that didn't have it before?

I am learning about content types.

I spent most of the day yesterday studying about content types and creating some to play with. I don't yet have a dev server, so I have to be careful expirimenting in my production environment..

Anyway, I am not sure how I got along so far (this far!) without knowing about and using content types! Thank you all for the push and for the hints and all.

If you are looking for a simple way to create a developer environment
take a look at
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23415 .

Full disclosure - my company built this for Microsoft... ;)
