So, the only way to create user accounts is through AD? - unless some third-party module is introduced?

Unless you implement some kind of Forms based authentication or other claims
based authentication system then the default is to require all users to be
in AD. There are some third party packages now available for 2010 that
provide a relatively easy implementation and management experience for SQL
based forms based authentication.

We purchased the DevIT FBA Suite and it works really well, has all the functionality you need for managing FBA accounts (from within SharePoint) and the pricing was very reasonable, especially compared to some other products on the market now.

Re: Looking for PowerShell Scripts to provision new 2010 farm

I would like to report that the AutoSPInstaller does an excellent job.
Here are a few considerations,however:
1. You must create all the service accounts in AD before you run the script.
2. Although the guide may say you don't need to download the Adobe iFilter, in fact, you do if you want an offline install. Otherwise the script will download it for you.
3. If you have run the M$ PreRequisite installer before and have not removed the prerequisites, you may encounter an issue or two. I found that the script wants to install the "SQL Native Server" and cannot recover from an error gotten from it already being installed. I fixed that issue by commenting out the line in the script's function file.
4. The script does not provision the Windows Token Service for you. Sharepoint Server seems wont to complain that it is running as a Local System account (which it will by default when you enable it).

Anyway, I found the script to be successful. It will set up your User Profile Service and MySites for you - two things that can be tricky.

Thanks Shane, this is a really nice collection. I'm going to experiment with the autospincontroller, that's mainly what I'd like to get going, to start. The Silverlight script PS builder is pretty cool and well:)

Thank you very much for your 5 minutes!

I really appreaciate it!
