Position Description:

A funded 3-year Graduate Research Assistantship leading to a Ph.D. in Marine Affairs is available at the University of Rhode Island (URI). URI is the principal public research and Sea Grant University for the State of Rhode Island. It is recognized as a leader in conducting and applying cutting-edge research and policy in the areas of coastal/ocean and climate change challenges. The doctoral student will work with Dr. Austin Becker and conduct research in the area of climate adaptation for coastal infrastructure systems. Specific research will focus on the development of stakeholder-based risk, vulnerability, and resilience indices for seaports and other coastal-dependent facilities.

Qualifications:

Prospective applicants should have a masters level degree or equivalent in economics, engineering, statistics, policy, or social science. Applicant should have a background in quantitative methods, but a strong interest in interdisciplinary work that incorporates both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Proficiency with GIS and/or basic programming a plus. Applicants should also have solid analytical and writing skills.

Stipend and Benefits:

Three years annual stipend plus full tuition waiver and supplemented health insurance. This assistantship is based on a 20-hour work week. Student will pay activity fees to the University of Rhode Island. Student will work with the advising team to secure intra-mural or extra-mural support for subsequent years

The anticipated starting date for the assistantship is August 23, 2014.

Project Catalyst Indonesia

The Public Affairs Section is pleased to announce a Public Affairs-Generated Exchange Program opportunity, "Social Entrepreneurship Exchange Program: Project Catalyst Indonesia" This program is supported by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy Jakarta and implemented by the Jolkona Foundation. Jolkona is a US-based non-profit organization with experience in developing programs targeting youth social entrepreneurship as well as building and delivering web-based donation models (www.jolkona.org).

This program is an intensive two-week US-based training program for 5 (five) young Indonesian social entrepreneurs. In addition to the training program, the social entrepreneurs will get exposure to potential partners, investors, and funders.

Program Goals:
Develop general entrepreneurship skills around pitching, creating business plans, working with effective marketing campaigns, and team building
Expose the participants to interesting models of social entrepreneurship and social enterprise structures
Foster job creation in Indonesia and increase social entrepreneurship activities in Indonesia
Build people-to-people exchanges and partnerships
Transfer best practices
Showcase entrepreneurs to potential investors in United States and Indonesia
Highlight successful social enterprises to motivate more Indonesian youths
Enhance the understanding of American culture

The program's specific goal is to provide young Indonesians with tangible skills and opportunities to establish and grow their social enterprises.

Program includes:
· Access to successful social entrepreneurs as one-on-one mentors
· Workshops on storytelling, mission finding, strategy and demand generation
· Tours of innovative nonprofits in the greater Seattle area
· Pitch meetings with investors and funders
· Networking events with key sector influencers
· Experience the scenic Pacific Northwest and homestay with local hosts

Candidates will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, or gender. Competition for Project Catalyst Indonesia is merit-based and open to founders of an active social enterprise who meet the following criteria:
· Between the ages of 18 and 30 years old
· Citizens of Indonesia 
· Currently living and working in Indonesia
· Able to participate in the full program (i.e. spend 2 weeks in June in Seattle)
· Able to receive a U.S. J-1 visa (Individuals who have participated in an exchange visitor program sponsored or funded by the U.S. Government and who have not fulfilled their two-year home residency requirement by the time of application are not eligible for this program);
· Proficient in spoken and written English at the time of application

The Government of India Scholarships for Indonesian Students
 
The Government of India scholarships are provided by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) through its General Scholarships Scheme (GSS) for the year 2014-15.

The scholarships are offered to meritorious Indonesian students to undertake higher studies in India under undergraduate (S1), post-graduate (S2) and Ph.D. (S3). Students can opt for any course in the fields of arts, performing arts, architecture, literature, commerce and science; degree courses in engineering and agriculture; and doctoral and post-doctoral courses in various disciplines. Government of India will provide living allowance, contingent grant, accommodation charges, tuition fee and other benefits, including expenses on medical treatment and study tour to the students selected for the scholarship. However, the cost of air passage to India and back for all students and expenses on laboratory chemicals and related incidentals for science stream students would have to be borne by them or by their sponsors. Scholarships are not provided for medicine (MBBS), dentistry (BDS), nursing & other courses related to medicine.

Applications for the 2014-15 academic year are now being accepted in the Embassy of India in Jakarta. Last date for acceptance of applications is 7th February 2014.

Mandatory requirements for GSS Scholarships application:
■A record of high-level academic achievement (with GPA of at least 2.75) in the last qualifying examination at the School or the University
■Syllabus of the last qualifying examination (Marksheet / academic transcript)
■Certified/sworn copies of all documents with English translations
■To pass an English Proficiency Test to be conducted by the Embassy
■For Students applying for doctoral/post-doctoral courses or architecture: Synopsis of the proposed area of research
■Certificate of Physical Fitness, as prescribed in Appendix-2 of the Application Form
■Medical certificate attesting that the candidate is free from AIDS
■Curriculum Vitae in English (HP and e-mail required)
■Certificate in English-language course/TOEFL score minimum 500
■Recommendation letter from former School/University/Office

WHO CAN APPLY?
 
To be eligible to apply for ICCR scholarship, you must:
■be an Indonesian national;
■be usually and currently resident in Indonesia;
■not have permanent resident status for any other country;
■be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencement of scholarship in India;
■not currently hold a scholarship from ICCR under GSS;
■not availed of a scholarship from ICCR under GSS;
■priority will be given to candidates who have not had scholarships and have not been awarded scholarship previously to study in India;
■be applying to commence a new course of study at a level higher than your current qualification;
■be able to take up the scholarship in the year in which it is offered (2014); and
■for civil servants, be endorsed by your sponsoring organization, i.e. Ministry, Department, statutory authority, agency.
Specifically:
■all applicants must have very good English language skills;
■to verify the English language competency, an English Proficiency Test will be conducted at the Embassy of India in Jakarta on February 17, 2014;
■only those candidates whose Application Forms and Documents have been found to be in order will be eligible for appearing in the English Proficiency Test;
■all applicants for M.Phil, Doctorate (Ph.D), Post-doctorate Research, Casual Research or Architecture would need to submit a synopsis of the proposed area of research;
■applicants for post-graduate study must already hold a recognized under-graduate degree (S1) with good academic record;
■applicants for doctorate (Ph.D) must already hold a recognized Master's degree (S2) with good academic record;
■applicants for studying performing arts would need to submit video/audio cassettes of their recorded performances.
In addition, all applicants must:
■be committed to return to Indonesia upon finishing their course of study

The closing date for applications is Friday, 7th February 2014

Call for applications to Newton International Fellowships
A new round of Newton International Fellowships - an initiative to fund research collaborations and improve links between UK and overseas researchers - has now opened. The Newton International Fellowships are funded by the British Academy and the Royal Society and aim to attract the most promising early-career post-doctoral researchers from overseas in the fields of the humanities, the natural, physical and social sciences.
The Fellowships enable researchers to work for two years at a UK research institution with the aim of fostering long-term international collaborations. Newton Fellows will receive an allowance of £24,000 to cover subsistence and up to £8,000 to cover research expenses in each year of the Fellowship. A one-off relocation allowance of up to £2,000 is also available. In addition, Newton Fellows may be eligible for follow-up funding of up to £6,000 per annum for up to 10 years following completion of the Fellowship to support activities which will help build long-term links with the UK. The scheme is open to post-doctoral (and equivalent) early-career researchers working outside the UK who do not hold UK citizenship.

Saya coba jawab pertanyaan mas Hamzah;
1. Untuk dosen yang menginduk ke DIKTI setahu saya sejauh ini "belum" boleh menjadi penerima beasiswa LPDP karena aturan DIKTI. LPDP tidak bisa melarang dosen karena untuk dosen yang menginduk ke PTAIN bisa mendapatkan beasiswa LPDP ini.
2. Mungkin ada baiknya rekan-rekan yang pernah apply dua kali yang menjawab.

Mohon bantuan rekan-rekan sekalian,
Saya mendaftar di salah satu program Masters Erasmus Mundus, dimana proses perkuliahan dilakukan oleh joint university di beberapa negara di Eropa.

Beberapa hari yang lalu, saya diberitahu bahwa saya masuk dalam reserved list (cadangan) untuk beasiswa-nya. Saya juga dianjurkan untuk mencari alternatif sumber pembiayaan (self funded) jika ternyata posisi saya dalam reserve list tidak berubah.

Setelah mencari-cari informasi, pilihan jatuh pada beasiswa LPDP, karena sepertinya akan dapat meng-cover biaya pendidikan dan hidup untuk 2 tahun.
Beberapa pertanyaan yang ingin saya ajukan:
> Jika hanya satu dr tiga joint university yang termasuk dalam ranking top 300, apakah saya masih dapat apply? Atau bagaimana jika ketiga university tersebut tidak masuk dalam top 300?
> Apakah ada syarat untuk ikatan dinas dari Beasiswa LPDP?
> Ada peraturan yang menyatakan saya harus kembali ke tanah air setelah selesai kuliah. Jika kemudian saya berminat untuk bekerja di luar untuk menambah pengalaman apakah diperbolehkan?

Adakah rekan-rekan yang pernah mengikuti program Erasmus Mundus dengan beasiswa LPDP? Kalau boleh, bisa japri untuk saya tanya2..

Seperti sudah diketahui bersama, bahwa hampir semua beasiswa mempersyaratkan hasil TOEFL. Nah, sehubungan dengan itu, saya mau tanya nih, apakah TOEFL bisa digantikan dengan TOEIC? Atau adakah lembaga yang dapat mengkonversi nilai TOEIC menjadi TOEFL?
