Doctoral student position in Biostatistics
Karolinska Institutet, MEB
The Department of Medical Epidemiologyand Biostatistics is among the largest departments of epidemiology in Europe with special focuson increasing our knowledge of the aetiology for different diseases. Our department consists of researchers, doctoral students, biostatisticians, data collectorsand database administrators as well as administrative personnel, in total approximately some 250 staff. The department is situated in campus Solna. Furtherinformation can be found at www.ki.se/meb
Area of responsibilities/description of the work
Applicationsare invited for a PhD research training position to work on the development of accelerated failure time models, with applications to prostatecancer.
The appointmentwill be for 4 years.
Qualifications
Applicants shouldhave a master's degree in statistics, biostatistics or related discipline, and have strong interest in medical and biologicalproblems. Previous experience in computational methods is a strong advantage. Successful candidates will have ample opportunities to work on both methodological as well as applied collaborative projects. Fluency in written and spoken English is required The applicant should be able to work wellin a team, as well as having the ability to work independently.
About the biostatistics group at MEB
The biostatisticsgroup comprises around 35 members, including 3 professors, 4 senior lecturers (universitetslektorer), applied biostatisticians, postdocs and PhD students. The group is involved in a wide variety of research projects, including population-based cohort and case-control studies, twin and familystudies, survival analyses, predictive modeling, genetic epidemiology and bioinformatics.

Entry requirements
To meet the general entryrequirements for third-cycle studies, an applicant must have
1. taken a second-cyclequalification
2. completed courserequirements for at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 second cycle higher education credits, or
3. otherwise acquiredessentially the same knowledge either in or outside of Sweden.
An applicant whomet the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies before 1 July 2007 is regarded as having met the current requirements, though no later than the end of June 2015.
A selection willbe made among qualified applicants on the basis of the ability to benefit from third-cycle studies.
Karolinska Institutet usesthe following bases of assessment:
- Documented subjectknowledge of relevance to the area of research
- Analytical skillcorroborated by an academic paper or the like
- Other documentedknowledge or experience that may be relevant to third-cycle studies in the subject.
The qualificationsof the applicants will be evaluated on an overall basis.

Dear milisters,
Saya tertarik untuk melanjutkan studi Master of Business Informatics di TU Wien dan saat ini sedang menjajaki aplikasi TU Wien. Saya mendapati beberapa documents required yang "ga biasa" dibandingkan dengan uni lain yaitu:
1. Proof of general university entrance qualification
2. If applicable proof of special university entrance qualification
Setelah membaca keterangannya, saya menarik kesimpulan berikut ini namun mohon dicerahkan apabila salah.
1. Proof of General University Entrance Qualification adalah sertifikat/transkrip nilai UAN SMA?
2. Special university entrance qualification adalah dokumen yang disediakan oleh uni dimana bachelor degree kita berasal yang menyatakan bahwa qualifikasi yg dimiliki oleh aplicant sesuai dengan requirement TU Wien, sehingga bisa melanjutkan studi di TU Wien?
Kemudian ada ketentuan berikut:"Documents are certified to confirm the authenticity of the seals and signatures affixed. Therefore, documents issued abroad must as a rule be certified by the Foreign Ministry of the country of issue as well as by the competent Austrian mission in the relevant country" --> Apakah semua dokumen yg dikirimkan harus di legalisir oleh Deplu??
Adakah rekans yang pernah apply ke TU Wien? Boleh kasih pencerahan buat saya yg sedang kebingungan ini :(

Hallo Winda,
Saya coba menjawab pertanyaan dari Winda. Kebetulan saat ini saya sedang study di Wina. Berdasarkan sedikit pengalaman kemarin pada saat aplikasi sekolah disini, saya mengirimkan beberapa dokumen seperti Ijazah dan Transkrip (asli dan terjemahan) yang perlu dilegalisir dari Universitas kemudian ke Kemenhumham, kemudian ke Kemenlu dan terakhir ke Kedutaan Besar Austria di Jakarta.
Berkaitan dengan pertanyaan mengenai proof of general entry qualification adalah surat yang dikeluarkan dari Universitas di Indonesia yang menyatakan bahwa Winda berkualifikasi untuk study pada program master. (*Kebetulan surat ini saya tidak diminta kemarin). Informasi ini saya dapatkan dari rekan-rekan yang apply program Master disini.
Semoga sedikit info dari saya bisa bermanfaat ya :) Jika ada hal lain yang bisa saya bantu bisa kontak lewat Japri.Good luck buat aplikasinya di TU Wien :)

Selamat buat milisters yang berhasil masuk shortlist ADS, saya belum beruntung lagi tahun ini...
selain tetap berniat daftar ADS lagi tahun yang akan datang, saya mulai open dengan kemungkinan studi di negara lain... salah satunya Bulgaria karena di Sofia University Bulgaria ada program studi yang saya cari, dan itu dalam bahasa Inggris.
Saya mencoba bertanya-tanya langsung ke Universitas Sofia mengenai aplikasi dan sebagainya. Dari jawaban mereka ada hal yang ingin saya tanyakan ke milisters. Barangkali ada yang dapat mensharingkan informasi atau pengalamannya. Yaitu mengenai verifikasi ijazah dan transkrip di Kemenlu dan Kedubes.
Kutipan jawaban dari Sofia university adalah sebagai berikut:
"In order to apply you will need to submit besides the application form filled out (please find it attached) a photocopy of your bachelor's degree and transcript. These documents have to bear Apostille or if the country that has issued them does not deal with Apostille, the documents have to be verified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country and then at the Bulgarian Embassy."
Setelah saya cari tahu, Indonesia belum ada Apostille, jadi saya harus ke Kemenlu dan Kedutaan Bulgaria. Yang ingin saya tanyakan, kalau saya ke Kemenlu, itu ke bagian apa? kalau ke kedutaan saya harus ke bagian apa? Kalau ada juga info mengenai biaya dan lamanya mengurus verifikasi ini. Rekan milisters yang sudah berpengalaman mengenai hal ini mohon sharingnya ya.
Sekalian juga kalau boleh saya mohon share mengenai perhimpunan mahasiswa Indonesia di Bulgaria (kalau ada), biaya hidup di sana bila berangkat sendiri atau bersama keluarga?
Mohon maaf banyak tanya, tapi tolong dibantu ya :) ..., dan terima kasih sebelumnya atas perhatian dan bantuan rekan-rekan milisters...
