Salvete!
I have installed Oracle Virtualbox on my computer, and want to get a sharepoint development schema going.
I tried to install a copy of my Windows Server 2008, but it turned out to be OEM, and so, even though I can install it on the virtual machine, I can't activate it.
We have a copy of Windows 7 64bit that I could use. I read where that was sufficient for sharepoint.
My question is, will I be able to run Active Directory on that? I need to do a bunch of AD testing.
Is using Windows7 a good idea, or should I invest in an MSDN subscription or another copy of windows server?

You can develop on Win7.
Are you running an AD forest? AD requires windows 20xx servers
YOu may want to check with your network/server admins

Windows 7 is suitable as a platform for basic development and if it is a
member of the domain you can do some AD testing using it. But to do real
integrated testing of security you'll need SharePoint installed on a full
copy of Server, not just Windows 7.
