Dear All,

I have a serious question here and a situation which i really never face before :)
I just want to know If there is possibility to perform the installation of SharePoint 2010 as a Production Server in Non-Domain Environment?. Even
with limited functionality, I would like to know those things which won't be
available or any risks which might be there?.

I understand, this is not an optimal or a
Microsoft recommended scenario. But, as i said I'm Facing this scenario now with one of the Customer. BTW, the Client is not planing at the main time to have own AD, but saying maybe after one year.

I appreciate all the answers and reply.

Best Regards,
Khaled

I use a sharepoint 2010 server in production, with local user accounts and
SQL Server on the same server.
I do not have problem with that.

Yes, you can install SharePoint 2010 in a non-domain environment. The limitation is that you can only have a single SharePoint server, since you will be using the local accounts as service accounts. Also, if you want to use a separate SQL server you will need to use SQL (mixed mode) authentication since you won't have a windows account that will be recognized on both the SharePoint and SQL servers.

Thanks all for the replies.
But, what about the functionality, is there any limitation if I want to use SP Server 2010 Enterprise license?.

Best Regards,
Khaled

No real limitation on functionality other than only being able to implement one server. When you only have one server you may be somewhat limited on the service apps you can deploy without affecting performance.

Hi there

A couple of suggestions...

First, verify that the user for whom you are setting the alert has the necessary access permissions to view the item being added. Make sure he/she has an account in SharePoint and has permissions: this is an issue when people try to register alerts to (for example) distribution lists.

Second, try setting up an alert for "all changes" not just "new items". If there are any steps between an item being added to the list and it becoming visible to the person for the alert, then the item is no longer "new" and will not trigger the alert. For example, if it needs to be published as a major version or approved, it is no longer a "new" item in SharePoint and will not trigger the alert, even though it might be "new" as far as that person is concerned. We raised a case with Microsoft many years ago to get this fixed but I don't think it ever has been.

I hope this helps.

Regards

I have read everything I can find and tried mulitiple suggestions but nothing is triggering a change. What is so obvious that I am missing. I have multiple items of this nature that I need to do and I am totally stumped.
