We are looking for an operation analyst whose areas of expertise is coding JCL, scheduling batch and analyzing batching performance.

1.3 Operations Analyst

 

 

Definition

In this environment the Operations Analyst is responsible for the entire production batch processing, including scheduling and tape management.

 

 

Duties

 

      Scheduling production batch cycle

This function includes:

    Accepting new jobs into production.

    Defining them in the appropriate scheduler.

 

    Optimizing batch processing

This function includes:

    Create and maintain an optimized batch schedule.

    Optimize JCL

 

    Maintain the tape management subsystem

This function includes:

    Maintain the tape management system

    Ensure only valid backups are maintained.

    Ensure that tape vaulting is setup correct and do periodic checks

 

    Problem Diagnosis and Resolution

This function includes:

    Identify & analyze problems

    Document problems & their resolution

    Liaise with applications where necessary

    Take recovery / corrective actions when necessary

    Exploit appropriate debugging mechanisms – traces, dumps, etc.

    Peruse logs periodically to identify potential or developing problems

 

    Backup Data

This function includes:

    Ensure all application data is backed and recoverable.

 

    VSAM File Maintenance

This function includes:

    Do health checks on the VSAM datasets

    Reorganize VSAM files when necessary.

    Create new files when necessary

 

    Disaster Recovery

This function includes:

    Ensure that the DR procedures are current & relevant

    Liaise with the Operating Systems sysprog & Operations analysts to ensure that

secured data is appropriate for DR

 

    Release Management

This function includes:

    Deploy application changes into production.

    Rollback changes whenever necessary,

 

 

    General

This function includes:

    Develop utilities/programs that can enhance the environment

    Provide technical assistance to applications and operations

    Develop procedures and training for the operations personnel.

    Research, & inform applications of developments that can enhance online

performance of programs &/or improve productivity &/or simplify their processes.

    Exploit new technologies that will benefit online processing in any way

 

 

 

 

Employment Standards

 

Experience                       :          Candidates requires at 5 years experience.

 

        Required Skills                :           Should be skilled in at least the following areas:

Scheduling (preferably CA-Scheduler) / CA-1, CA-View and

CA-Deliver. .
