ok, my constraints are that I want to change the text that has our copyright info included (to match the upcoming year) and add some analytics code so that it collects info for every page in the site collection. Does it matter a great deal if I alter the the footer of the default master page on the live (Intranet) site? If I just copy it and make a change to the copied version, I have to go everywhere that master page shows up and point to the new master, right? Sorry I did not set any of this stuff up and when that guy left it was decided to not get another useful resource. So I'm trying to become more self-reliant. :))

To your last question: it depends on whether the subsites have been told
to use a different master page. If not, then you can just change the
master page at the top level and tell it to propagate to all subsites (I
believe it's a checkbox when you change the master in Site Settings).

Of course if the subsites aren't all using the same master page as the
parent site collection, then you'll have to make individual updates at
those levels anyway.

Cheers,

Peter

Thanks Peter. How much of a big deal is it if I do something outside the site def? We're also handing hosting to all this stuff off to an external vendor who is upgrading us to 2010 in a few months.

Hrm. If you're going to do the upgrade, I'd stick with the site def for
now. While I don't know that it would make a huge difference, I'd hate to
be wrong. After the upgrade, you can save off another copy of the original
default master (2010 version) and make the change again if necessary.

Windows 7 (32 bit) & Sharepoint 2010 as development environment

Posted by: "Ben P" benparse@yahoo.com   benparse

HI,

I'm interested in setting up a development environment where I can develop sandbox Sharepoint apps which can be later migrated to the Sharepoint cloud service.
While I feel I've extensively googled this can anyone definitely confirm that it's NOT possible to set up such a environment using the 32 bit version of windows 7...ie it MUST be the 64 bit version.

TIA,
Ben
